Extend Public School Hours & Include Younger Children

It is time to realign our education system with the realities of modern life. Specifically, we need public schools for very young children as well as K-12, and we need school schedules to align more effectively with the modern work-day. I don't have children myself because I don't understand how anyone can be both a good parent and a good employee with the system we've got.

We are "deeply concerned" about teen drug use,... more »

Education & Families

There are wonderful ideas, yet we need one that will accommodate all Families. The school has a system the dent is a coronavirus.

Following the school system and only accommodate what is recommended. Social Distancing, 25% compacity per classroom

and rotate the teacher and children together. Too much change interrupts an individual from staying focus and succeeding. It is a new normal but not to education and the system... more »

Industrial Size Tents

Learning institutions have parking lots, fields and other open spaces outdoors on their grounds. Temporary large industrial size tents can be assembled by the army corps of engineers on these grounds. Inside the tents, desks or other apparatus should be adequately spaced. Tents should be large enough to accommodate hundreds of students at a time. This will enable class sizes inside the buildings to be reduced so that... more »

Open Middle & High Schools with Mandatory Measures

I propose that all Middle & High School re-open because they are old enough to following these mandatory measures:

1\. Masks be provided by schools/government & worn at all times

2\. Handwashing prior to entering the school and when exiting to leave and before and after lunch.

3\. Supervised wiping down of chairs and desks at start and end of day

4\. Rotating teachers to classrooms instead of children.

5\. Spacing... more »

CHILD CARE COSTS CAN NEGATE MOST INCOME FOR AVERAGE AMERICAN: CHILDCARE SOLUTIONS Needed

Child care remains the single largest burden on working parents with young children. Expenses per child can range from several thousand for after care during the school year and nearly $10K or more for summer camp. Parents with children in day care year-round can pay upward of $25K per child, at least in NY.

Per TheStreet, the average US salary is $48,672 (https://www.thestreet.com/personal-finance/average-income-in-us-14852178).... more »

Businesses and government need to do more to support a high quality child care system

Businesses rely on workers many of whom have children. For too long we have ignored this fact and left families on their own to find full or part time care for their children. Businesses need to play a major part in assuring parents can find accessible, affordable high quality child care. This means family friendly business policies and child care support in the form of scholarships. High quality child care supports the... more »

Supporting America's Families

Let's care for the children and their caregivers - parents and child care professionals.

Child care is essential for three main reasons:

1\. It provides care and education (builds brains) of the next generation of citizens, workers and community members.

2\. It provides care and education for little children so their parents can go to work.

3\. In and of itself it is a backbone to our economy, it is a large industry in and of itself and allows other businesses to employ workers.

Supporting Children and Education

It is saddening to hear that many children do not have internet or computers at home to help them continue learning from a distance. When schools open up again, hopefully the classroom sizes will decrease and also students will be able to get computers or tablets to take home with them for schoolwork. If crowding is an issue, perhaps students can stagger the times they use different facilities at the school campus. Families... more »

Seeking Employment

As a Workforce professional and social worker having worked at the DOL and some non profits the idea of being out of work in normal times is very depressing and humiliating. People feel like failures and the anxiety builds as the bills rise. People come in broken. It's ridiculous to assume that most people will return to their previous jobs or careers. We're going to need a great workforce of people to include social... more »

Anticipate Absences

As schools reopen, it must be anticipated that children will be sent home for every slight symptom of illness. Businesses must anticipate that parents are going to have to stay home with children much more frequently in the coming year. Family Sick policies should be adjusted to permit working from home AND a work from home protocol should be established in anticipation of these types of sudden departures. To put it bluntly-... more »

Childcare

Before you start bringing people back to work, you need to figure out schools and childcare. Parents cannot resume going to work if there is no one to take care of their kids. With summer nearly here that include summer camps and activities which some may have already suspended or put on hold. Groups like the YMCA, PJCC. Parks and Recreation Departments, scouting organizations and other on profits have either cancelled... more »
