Please include long-term care workers, especially direct support staff in the definition of health care providers to be exempt from the expanded FMLA and new sick leave provision. Our workers provide essential, life saving services to the elderly and persons with developmental disabilities. Without this exemption our clients will be at risk losing their direct caregivers under the expanded FMLA and new sick leave provision. Around 75% of our staff have school aged children and our clients would be in danger if even a few staff were unavailable to provide the critical care and supervision that is needed. Blood glucose monitoring, meal supply, medication administration, tube feeding are some of the critically important tasks performed by our workforce.
